Travel time between Vallejo and San Francisco is approximately 60 minutes. Travel time is approximately 10 minutes between Pier 41 and the SF Ferry Building.
The Vallejo BayLink Ferry has available service seven days a week, except for a few holidays, when no ferry service is available.
It normally takes about 60 minutes or one hour for commute times on the ferry. Tides, winds, and number of passengers, as well as bay boat traffic can affect the commute time. In the past it used to take the ferry 45-50 minutes. But the ferry now slows down in the Napa River and where the Napa River, Sacramento River and San Pablo Bay meet. Sandy Beach folks at the Napa River entrance put the kibosh on the ferry zooming down the river. They were fretting about having the wake from the ferry erode their house pier footings that extend out in the water. You’d think that if someone decides to build their house on a pier that they’d be prepared to deal with waves, wakes, wind and pestilence. But, out of the goodness of the BayLink Folks and the Captains of the boats, we slow down, and take an extra ten or more minutes to reach the dock.
It is highly recommended you give yourself enough time to park, and pay your parking fees, grab a cup of coffee, purchase your ticket and get in line. In Vallejo you can purchase your ticket at the Vallejo Ferry Building. In San Francisco, Bay Crossings in the San Francisco Ferry Building will sell you ferry tickets.
On Baseball Game days it’s recommended that you add in an additional 15 minutes minimum each way to board your ferry. On these days it is not unusual to get left at the dock. And the steady crowd of commuters who pay in advance for monthly and ten ride passes get zero preference. Baylink says that all ferry rides are offered on a first come, first first ride basis. Seems mighty unfair that those who have already paid for a month in advance and depend on the ferry for their daily commute are often the ones left at the dock while a large crowd of orange and black wearing baseball fans come on board.
We aim to make it easier to see the schedule at a glance and to conveniently keep informed of any changes. Keep up to date on the Vallejo Ferry Schedule!
